BREAKING NEWS ALERT: While responding to a report of an armed suspect, two brave police officers were ambushed and shot.
One officer remains in critical condition, while the suspect who attacked these brave law enforcement professionals managed to escape continues to evade capture.
This marks the latest in a disturbing trend of violence against police officers in a city where leadership has failed to protect its citizens.
The Milwaukee officers, both with over six years of experience on the force, were approaching an alley near 25th and Garfield on foot when they were suddenly fired upon without warning.
The 32-year-old officer sustained critical injuries while his 29-year-old colleague suffered non-life-threatening wounds.
Neither officer had an opportunity to return fire during the cowardly attack.
Milwaukee Police Association President Alex Cyreia issued a powerful statement following the shooting, clearly frustrated by the ongoing attacks on law enforcement.
“Stop trying to kill my police officers,” Cyreia declared, highlighting that four officers have been attacked in just five months in Milwaukee.
The police union released a statement that pulls no punches about the deteriorating conditions officers face:
“It is with profound sorrow and outrage that we confirm that two Milwaukee police officers were tragically shot and critically injured in the line of duty tonight. Our thoughts are with these officers, their families, friends, and colleagues. These officers face unimaginable suffering and they have long roads ahead of them.
“We have reached a breaking point. Violence in our city is out of control, and those who protect our neighborhoods are increasingly in the crosshairs. We have had five officers killed in the line of duty over the past seven years and dozens of our officers have been shot and shot at while trying to serve our neighborhoods.”
Seemingly desperate to regain control of his increasingly dangerous city, Mayor Cavalier Johnson issued a direct challenge to the shooter.
“For the person that shot our officers: if you don’t turn yourself in…know that the men and women of this department, they’re going to find you,” Johnson said.
The Milwaukee Police Department’s homicide division is leading the investigation.
Authorities have stated they know the identity of the suspect but have yet to make an arrest.
The community has been asked to share any information with authorities, either through 911 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
This attack comes amid a nationwide crisis of disrespect and violence toward law enforcement, fueled by anti-police rhetoric.
In cities across America where progressive policies have taken hold, police officers increasingly find themselves understaffed, under-resourced, and targeted by criminals emboldened by soft-on-crime policies.
The Milwaukee Police Department expressed gratitude to first responders and medical professionals attending to the wounded officers.
The department has also requested prayers from the community for the officers’ recovery.
