Promising to advance MAGA policies in the deep-red state, vocal Trump ally Senator Tommy Tuberville officially jumped into Alabama’s gubernatorial race.
The former Auburn football coach announced his candidacy at a barbecue restaurant in Auburn.
“We’re going to bring manufacturing to this state. We’re going to stop this illegal immigration. We’re going to make education better again, and we’re going to do everything possible to make sure our kids…stay in this state and work,” Tuberville stated.
His entrance into the race makes him an immediate frontrunner for the 2026 election to replace term-limited Governor Kay Ivey.
At his announcement event, Tuberville highlighted the skills he believes will transfer from the gridiron to the governor’s mansion.
Tuberville emphasized, “I’m a football coach. I’m a leader. I’m a builder. I’m a recruiter, and we’re going to grow Alabama.”
The Alabama senator made it clear that supporting President Donald Trump’s agenda would be central to his governorship.
“We’ve gotta help President Trump. He got elected by almost 80 million people. They gave us a mandate. Let’s get it done,” Tuberville told supporters.
The senator’s decision to run for governor ends weeks of speculation and positions him as the first major Republican to enter what could become a competitive primary.
His announcement is particularly significant after Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth decided against running.
His decision removed a potential obstacle to Tuberville’s candidacy in a state that has not elected a Democratic governor since 1998.
The senator’s strong conservative credentials include his high-profile 10-month hold on military promotions in protest of the Biden administration’s abortion policies.
This principled stand endeared him to conservatives nationwide and demonstrated his willingness to fight against the radical left’s agenda.
Tuberville has already secured support from influential conservative groups like the Club for Growth.
Tuberville’s entry into the governor’s race also creates an open Senate seat in Alabama, likely triggering a competitive Republican primary for that position as well.
The senator leveraged his fame as Auburn’s head football coach (1999-2008) to win his Senate seat in 2020.
After securing President Trump’s endorsement, Tuberville defeated former Attorney General Jeff Sessions in the primary.
The Alabama Democrat Party has already attacked Tuberville, labeling him as “arrogant and extreme.”
Tuberville’s campaign website emphasizes his “conservative Alabama values,” showcasing his commitment to the principles that resonate with the state’s voters.
With his name recognition, fundraising ability, and Trump alliance, Tuberville enters the race as the clear favorite to become Alabama’s next governor.
If he succeeds, he will continue advancing the conservative policies that have made Alabama a Republican stronghold.
