(VitalNews.org) – In a stunning turn of events, Fox News has decided to join left-wing media outlets in criticizing President Donald Trump’s decision to revamp the White House press pool.

The president’s bombshell move effectively ends decades of media monopoly controlled by establishment journalists.

The bold policy gives power back to Americans by diversifying which news outlets can cover the president.

However, Fox News correspondent Jacqui Heinrich surprisingly joined leftist critics in opposing the change.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made it clear that this policy shift aims to break up the stranglehold that mainstream media outlets have maintained on presidential access.

The Trump administration will now directly select which journalists participate in the press pool for events with limited space, such as Air Force One travel and Oval Office meetings.

“I’m proud to announce that we are going to give the power back to the people who read your papers, who watch television shows, and who listen to your radio stations,” Leavitt stated when announcing the change.

“A select group of D.C.-based journalists should no longer have a monopoly of press access at the White House,” Leavitt added.

She also took the opportunity to point to the administration’s commitment to include voices beyond the Washington establishment.

The decision effectively bypasses the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA), which has traditionally controlled press pool access.

It also highlights the administration’s commitment to breaking up the media cartel that has dominated White House coverage for decades.

Critics claim this breaks with tradition, but supporters point out that the WHCA has long favored legacy media while excluding alternative and conservative outlets that better represent everyday Americans.

Heinrich surprised many conservatives by publicly criticizing the administration’s decision.

“This move does not give the power back to the people – it gives power to the White House. The WHCA is democratically elected by the full-time White House press corps,” Heinrich claimed.

Heinrich’s comments align with WHCA president Eugene Daniels, who complained:

“This move tears at the independence of a free press in the United States. It suggests the government will choose the journalists who cover the president. In a free country, leaders must not be able to choose their own press corps.”

However, the Trump administration has made it clear this change is part of a broader modernization effort that will include streaming services and digital media platforms that better represent how Americans actually consume news in 2025.

This is a direct challenge to the entrenched media establishment that has increasingly lost touch with everyday citizens.

The policy shift comes after the administration recently barred the Associated Press (AP) from pooled events following a dispute over the naming of the Gulf of America.

The AP responded by filing a lawsuit claiming First Amendment violations, with a court hearing scheduled for next month.

Many Trump supporters see this move as long overdue, pointing to the overwhelmingly negative and biased coverage the president received during his first term.

By diversifying the press pool, the administration aims to ensure Americans receive more balanced reporting on White House activities.

Still, expected quarters, including legacy media outlets and some Fox News personalities, continue to blast the decision.

Nonetheless, the Trump administration remains committed to this policy change as part of its broader agenda to return government to the people and drain the Washington swamp of entrenched special interests.
