United States Says Iran Was Behind Presidential Campaigns Cyberattacks

(VitalNews.org) – The United States has said that they believe Iran is behind the cyberattacks that affected the presidential campaigns of Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.

An FBI assessment and other federal agencies has shown that there are renewed fears about threats of foreign election interference, especially as we get closer to the election in November.

The FBI said, “We have observed increasingly aggressive Iranian activity during this election cycle, specifically involving influence operations targeting the American public and cyber operations targeting presidential campaigns.”

“This includes the recently reported activities to compromise former president Trump’s campaign, which the intelligence community attributes to Iran,” they added.

The Trump campaign accused Iran of previously hacking one of its websites, but the campaign stated that the hackers could only get “publicly available information.”

The United States has said that Iran has also targeted the Harris campaign. However, Iran’s mission to the United Nations said that these allegations have no substance.

Said Iran’s Mission, “As we have previously announced, the Islamic Republic of Iran harbors neither the intention nor the motive to interfere with the US presidential election.”

According to Google, the cyberattacks are coming from a hacker group, allegedly affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, called APT42; this group has been hacking US and Israeli organizations.

This is a flashback to the elections of 2016 when Russia allegedly hacked the Democratic National Committee emails.
