(VitalNews.org) – The United States military and Iraq have joined together to launch a joint raid targeting a suspected Islamic State group in the Iraqi desert. This attack killed at least fifteen people and seven American troops were hurt.
The U.S. Military central command said that the militants were armed with weapons and grenades during the battle.
“This operation targeted ISIS leaders to disrupt and degrade ISIS’ ability to plan, organize, and conduct attacks against Iraqi civilians, as well as US citizens, allies, and partners throughout the region and beyond,” the central command said. “Iraqi security forces continue to further exploit the locations raided.”
The Iraqi Military stated, ”Among the dead were key ISIS leaders,” adding. “All hideouts, weapons, and logistical support were destroyed, explosive belts were safely detonated and important documents, identification papers and communication devices were seized.”
A United States defense official said that some American troops had been wounded in the operation while others were injured in falls. “All personnel are in stable condition,” the official said.
Iraq didn’t immediately mention the United States as a partner in the raid when they announced it, and it took the U.S. two days before they announced their part in it.
The U.S. has continued to fight the Islamic State Group, and at its peak, the Islamic group ruled an area half the size of the U.K. They consistently attacked religious minority groups and inflicted harsh punishment on Muslims.
A coalition that had over eighty countries was led by the United States to fight the Islamic State. The militants have continued to operate in areas such as Anbar desert, where these recent attacks by Iraq and the U.S. took place. The IS branch of Afghanistan is said to be an extremely dangerous group that has been proven to carry out intense, bloody assaults on people.
