(VitalNews.org) – In a dramatic turn of events, Matthew Huttle was fatally shot by a sheriff’s deputy during a routine traffic stop in Indiana.
President Donald Trump recently pardoned Huttle for his involvement in the January 6 Capitol protests.
The incident occurred recently near the Pulaski County line on S.R. 14 when a Jasper County sheriff’s deputy stopped Huttle, a 42-year-old Indiana resident.
According to authorities, what should have been a routine traffic stop quickly escalated into a deadly confrontation.
State police reported that during the stop, Huttle was found to be in possession of a firearm.
The situation allegedly took a turn when Huttle, for reasons yet to be fully explained, resisted arrest.
“An altercation took place between the suspect and the officer, which resulted in the officer firing his weapon and fatally wounding the suspect,” stated the Indiana State Police in a news release.
This incident has sent shockwaves, particularly among those who view the January 6 protesters as political prisoners unjustly persecuted by the justice system.
Huttle’s involvement in the Capitol protest was minimal. He entered the building for around 10 minutes, for which he received a six-month prison sentence through a plea deal.
Defense attorney Andrew Hemmer had previously stated, “He is not a true believer in any political cause. He instead went to the rally because he thought it would be a historic moment and he had nothing better to do after getting out of jail.”
Sheriff Patrick Williamson sent a message to Huttle’s family, stating, “Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased as any loss of life is traumatic to those that were close to Mr. Huttle.”
The sheriff also mentioned that the officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave, a standard procedure in such cases.
As the investigation unfolds, many are questioning the circumstances that led to this tragedy.
