(VitalNews.org) – Kamala Harris began her first debate with Donald Trump by throwing the first punches at the former president.
The ABC moderators, David Muir and Linsey Davis asked Kamala Harris if the United States was better off than it was four years ago. The Vice President said she was “raised as a middle-class kid” and said that she wants to tackle housing shortages and has a “passion” for small businesses. She then stated that Trump’s plan is to cut taxes for his billionaire friends and big corporations instead of focusing on the people.
To start, Trump focused on talking about policies including the tariffs that he’s imposed on China. However, this didn’t last long before he started throwing personal attacks at Kamala Harris. He said, “Everything she believed four years ago, she’s a Marxist. She hates Israel. If she wins, Israel will not exist in two years.”
Trump even spoke about a story of Haitian immigrants “eating the dogs, eating the pets,” in Ohio, which was said to be a debunked rumor, that ABC then called him out on .
Donald Trump seemed to be unhappy at the debate and barely looked in Harris’ direction, while Harris often looked in his direction to address him and even laughed at him at one point.
Abortion was a hot topic at the debate as Kamala Harris said that Trump would sign a national abortion ban. Trump has said that “every legal scholar” wants the abortion issue returned to the states, which hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Harris shot back, “This is so rich by someone who has been found liable for sexual assault.”
The former president continued to speak out about the amount of people that have attended Harris’ rallies, saying she’s “paid people” to attend.
Harris has also said things that aren’t true as she went back on what she originally said about fracking. She also stated that Trump threatened a “bloodbath” if he didn’t win, which wasn’t true. He said this about the American auto industry, not about winning the election.
