(VitalNews.org) – President Donald Trump has fulfilled a campaign promise by pardoning Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the Silk Road dark web marketplace.

Known online as Dread Pirate Roberts, Ulbricht’s full and unconditional pardon was announced on Truth Social.

“I just called the mother of Ross William Ulbricht to let her know that in honor of her and the Libertarian Movement, which supported me so strongly, it was my pleasure to have just signed a full and unconditional pardon of her son, Ross,” Trump posted.

For the past twelve years, Ulbricht had been serving a life sentence for drug trafficking, computer hacking and money laundering,

Trump’s decision to pardon Ulbricht fulfills a promise he made during the Libertarian Party’s National Convention.

The pardon has sent shockwaves through the political establishment, with many seeing it as a direct challenge to the status quo.

Trump did not mince words when announcing the pardon, taking aim at those involved in Ulbricht’s conviction.

“The scum that worked to convict him were some of the same lunatics who were involved in the modern day weaponization of government against me,” Trump declared.

Trump’s remarks also drew a clear parallel between Ulbricht’s persecution and the witch hunts he himself has faced.

Ulbricht’s case has long been a rallying point for libertarians and advocates of criminal justice reform.

Many viewed his life sentence as excessively harsh, especially considering that he was a first-time offender.

The “Free Ross” movement gained significant traction, with supporters arguing that his punishment far outweighed his crimes.

Trump’s decision aligns with the views of many conservatives and libertarians who see Ulbricht’s conviction as a prime example of government overreach.

Republican congressman Thomas Massie, a staunch defender of individual liberties, expressed his gratitude.

“Thank you for keeping your word to me and others who have been advocating for Ross’ freedom,” Massie said.
