(VitalNews.org) – Minnesota Republicans are taking bold action against what many conservatives have long described as a genuine psychological condition.
Five GOP state senators have introduced legislation to officially classify “Trump Derangement Syndrome” as a recognized mental illness.
The syndrome highlights the irrational hatred many on the left display toward President Donald Trump.
The move has predictably triggered outrage from Democrats who seem determined to prove the bill’s point.
The bill was authored by Minnesota Senators Eric Lucero, Steve Drazkowski, Nathan Wesenberg, Justin Eichorn, and Glenn Gruenhagen,
The legislation defines Trump Derangement Syndrome as an “acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal persons” triggered by President Trump’s policies and persona.
The bill details how the condition manifests as an “inability to distinguish between legitimate policy differences and signs of psychic pathology in President Donald J. Trump’s behavior.”
Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson acknowledged that the proposal had elements that were “tongue in cheek.”
However, he emphasized it highlights a serious point about Democrats’ obsessive focus on President Trump rather than addressing issues that matter to Minnesotans.
The initiative was inspired by Tesla CEO and X owner Elon Musk, who has described the syndrome as “a real thing.”
The term itself has deep roots in American political discourse. It was adapted from “Bush derangement syndrome,” coined in 2003 by conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer to describe critics of then-President George W. Bush.
Krauthammer defined it as “the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people in reaction to the policies, the presidency—nay—the very existence of George W. Bush.”
The Minnesota proposal mirrors this phrasing while updating it for the Trump era.
Predictably, Democrats have reacted with indignation. Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy called the bill “wasteful, frivolous and shameful,” claiming it trivializes mental health issues and attacks free speech.
This defensive response only seems to validate what Republicans are highlighting: the left’s inability to maintain perspective when President Trump is involved.
The bill faces long odds in Minnesota’s Democrat-controlled Senate and a tied House requiring bipartisan support.
Still, its introduction serves a valuable purpose in spotlighting the political obsession that continues to distract from substantive policy debates.
Johnson made this clear when he stated that “Senate Republicans have always supported mental health funding, trying to make sure that there are resources available for that.”
The condition described in the legislation has been readily apparent to conservatives for years.
Media figures, celebrities, and Democrat politicians continue to display symptoms ranging from hysterical outbursts to elaborate conspiracy theories whenever President Trump’s name is mentioned.
This persistent fixation has damaged political discourse nationwide and distracted from addressing real challenges facing American families.
Though Trump Derangement Syndrome is not currently found in medical diagnostic codes, many Americans recognize it when they see it in unhinged news coverage, social media tirades, and increasingly dangerous rhetoric from the left.
