(VitalNews.org) – The battle between justice and crime has begun: the Department of Justice (DOJ) is taking a stand against New York’s dangerous immigration policies.
Watch the video down below.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced a lawsuit against New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New York Attorney General Letitia James over the state’s “Green Light Law.”
This reckless policy allows illegal aliens to obtain driver’s licenses and obstructs federal immigration enforcement efforts.
Bondi did not mince words when addressing New York’s blatant disregard for federal law.
“New York has chosen to prioritize illegal aliens over American citizens. It stops. It stops today,” she declared.
The lawsuit targets the state’s “tip-off” provision, which requires officials to notify illegal aliens when federal agencies request their information.
“It’s tipping off an illegal alien, and it’s unconstitutional, and that’s why we filed this lawsuit,” Bondi explained.
The DOJ’s lawsuit argues that New York’s Green Light Law undermines federal immigration laws and authorities.
It accuses the state of obstructing federal efforts to enforce immigration laws and remove illegals charged or convicted of crimes.
This action is part of a broader federal initiative to crack down on sanctuary jurisdictions that shield illegal aliens from deportation.
Bondi emphasized the grave consequences of New York’s policies by introducing Tammy Nobles, whose daughter was tragically murdered by an illegal MS-13 gang member.
This heart-wrenching example underscores the very real dangers posed by sanctuary policies that protect criminal aliens.
The lawsuit follows similar action against Illinois for preventing communication between local and federal law enforcement.
Bondi made it clear that New York’s defiance would not be tolerated, stating, “As you know, we sued Illinois. New York didn’t listen. So now, you’re next.”
In response to the lawsuit, New York officials doubled down on their policies.
Hochul claims to support deporting violent criminals while protecting “law-abiding” illegal aliens. She stated:
“Here are the facts: our current laws allow federal immigration officials to access any DMV database with a judicial warrant. That’s a common-sense approach that most New Yorkers support. But there’s no way I’m letting federal agents, or Elon Musk’s shadowy DOGE operation, get unfettered access to the personal data of any New Yorker in the DMV system like 16-year-old kids learning to drive and other vulnerable people.”
The DOJ’s actions extend beyond the courtroom. The department has frozen funding for sanctuary jurisdictions and plans to withhold federal funding from organizations supporting illegal aliens.
This financial pressure aims to force compliance with federal immigration laws and protect American citizens.
The federal government recently seized over $80 million from New York’s accounts intended for housing for illegals, further escalating tensions.
This decisive action sends a clear message that the Trump administration will fund New York’s sanctuary policies with taxpayer dollars.
