The arrest of David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman, a key MS-13 figure, during a high-speed chase, alongside a major drug seizure marks a pivotal moment.
Maryland’s law enforcement scored a significant victory with the arrest of 27-year-old David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman, a high-ranking MS-13 leader.
This El Salvadoran national faces charges ranging from gun possession to terrorist affiliations in his home country.
His capture is hailed as a critical strike against MS-13, disrupting operations across the U.S., Mexico, and Europe.
According to ICE sources, this move significantly hampers the gang’s leadership capabilities, AOL reports.
Notably, Maryland’s crackdown complements Virginia’s efforts, initiated under Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s Executive Order 47.
This directive aligns state and federal forces to curb violent crime and enforce immigration laws.
In tandem, the FBI’s Virginia Homeland Security Task Force arrested 39 individuals, including MS-13 members, securing a comprehensive sweep across state lines.
“Maryland is immediately safer because of this arrest. Working together, we took custody of one of the highest-ranking gang members in the United States. David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman is no longer in his alleged position of power directing violence. His arrest demonstrates the success we can have when we collectively investigate and disrupt violent criminals seeking to exploit our communities,” said FBI Baltimore Special Agent in Charge William J. DelBagno.
Besides Orellana’s arrest, federal agents detained two individuals involved in a high-speed chase, transporting crack cocaine and fentanyl.
Walter Caberera Miranda and Jose Torres Juarez were apprehended, showcasing the enduring threat posed by drug cartels operating within our borders.
Evidence suggests Maryland and Virginia remain central hubs for these criminal elements, highlighting the stakes at play.
This operation underscores the synergy between ICE and local law enforcement, vital in addressing gang threats.
Sheriff Chuck Jenkins stressed the role of immigration detainers in preventing suspects’ flight risk, emphasizing their importance in maintaining public safety.
“Those same two suspects were released on personal recognizance on initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner,” Jenkins stated, illustrating the ongoing battle faced by law enforcement in maintaining custody of violent criminals.
With Orellana in ICE custody, Maryland stands as a testament to the positive outcomes of rigorous law enforcement collaboration.
