Tesla Recalls 2 Million Vehicles Over Fear of Hood Popping Open When Driving

(VitalNews.org) – Tesla, Elon Musk’s electric vehicle brand, is recalling almost two million vehicles because of the possibility of the hood popping open while driving.

Last month, the electric vehicle maker rolled out a software fix that would detect an unlatched hood. However, the unlatched hood could be a huge danger if the hood pops open while driving as it will obstruct the driver’s view.

Tesla stated that it has three reports of the issue in the United States, but there have been no reports of car crashes or injuries because of the issue. The recall will affect one million eight hundred thousand vehicles. Model 3, S, X, and Y vehicles have been recalled.

Tesla stated that they began investigating the complaints about the hood latches opening in Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in China a few months ago. This is when it launched a latch hardware recovery and inspection. Tesla then said that they continued to investigate the hood latches in Europe and North America even though they didn’t have as many latch mishaps.

This particular recall is the biggest recall since December when they recalled over two million US vehicles to install new safeguards in its Autopilot system.

Tesla has been dealing with a huge wave of issues from recalls, and a drop in profit, and they have been cutting jobs often to combat the dip in profits. However, Tesla said that they are on track to make “new vehicles, including more affordable models” at the beginning of next year.
