(VitalNews.org) – Following constant requests from the campaign, the Secret Service is only now boosting its protective measures for GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump amid rising threats.
The agency has finally decided to provide better protection for the former president, but only after two assassination attempts and an Iranian murder-for-hire plot.
This never-before-seen level of security for a presidential nominee underscores the grave dangers Trump faces as he campaigns for reelection.
Acting Secret Service Director Ronald L. Rowe Jr. has confirmed that Trump is receiving the highest levels of protection available.
The agency has implemented thorough improvements to its communications capabilities, resourcing and protective operations.
These measures include explosive ordnance disposal, canine units, airlift transportation and advanced technical security assets.
The Trump campaign’s requests for additional security have been extensive.
It has focused on securing military aircraft capable of thwarting missile threats, boosting the presence of armored vehicles and expanding temporary flight restrictions around Trump’s residences and rallies.
Trump’s top campaign adviser Susie Wiles exposed these urgent security concerns directly to White House Chief of Staff Jeffrey D. Zients and Acting Secret Service Director Rowe.
The campaign has faced significant challenges, including having to move, reschedule or cancel events due to limited security resources.
Secret Service communications chief Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement:
“Since the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13, the U.S. Secret Service has made comprehensive enhancements to its communications capabilities, resourcing and protective operations. Today, the former President is receiving the highest levels of protection.”
Additionally, the intelligence community has briefed the Trump campaign on active threats from Iran.
These threats have required unprecedented security measures, including using classified military assets and pre-placing bullet-resistant glass in key states.
Even Joe Biden has expressed support for enhanced security measures despite his administration’s relentless persecution of Trump.
Biden stated that Trump should be treated as if he were a sitting president, telling the Secret Service to give him “every single thing he needs.”
This rare moment of bipartisan agreement underscores the severity of the threats Trump faces.
The Secret Service’s new commitment to protecting Trump is evident in their allocation of resources.
While typically about 80 agents are assigned to a former president, Trump’s security detail has been significantly increased.
The agency employs various specialized teams for his protection, including counter-sniper and counter-assault teams, which are not usually assigned to former presidents.
