(VitalNews.org) – Russia’s Vladimir Putin and China’s Xi Jinping have stated that they are pledging a “new era” of partnership between the two of them. Xi met up with Putin on the red carpet in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The two of them mentioned a partnership in 2022 when they declared a “no limits” deal between them just days before Russia invaded Ukraine.
On Thursday, they signed a statement that discussed a “new era,” declaring their opposition to security issues regarding the United States and a shared view regarding Ukraine, Taiwan, and North Korea.
Xi told Putin during their meeting, “The China-Russia relationship today is hard-earned, and the two sides need to cherish and nurture it.” He continued, “China is willing to jointly achieve the development and rejuvenation of our respective countries, and work together to uphold fairness and justice in the world.”
Russia, which has been dealing with a war against Ukraine, and China, which has been dealing with pressure from the United States, found themselves both in a similar geopolitical situation.
The United States views China as its biggest competitor and they view Russia as its biggest threat. Biden has referred to Xi Jinping as a “dictator” while referring to Vladimir Putin as a “killer” and “crazy SOB.”
The visit between Putin and Xi Jinping happened not long after Putin had a visit from the United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to discuss concerns over China’s support for the Russian military. As this conversation continues they have established more of a partnership after Blinken’s visit.
Putin spoke on Russia’s ties with Xi and relations with the United States.
“The United States still thinks in terms of the Cold War and is guided by the logic of bloc confrontation, putting the security of ‘narrow groups’ above regional security and stability, which creates a security threat for all countries in the region,” Putin’s statement said. “The U.S. must abandon this behavior.”
