(VitalNews.org) – In a shocking turn of events, beloved convenience store chain Wawa is now facing a massive recall of 60,000 tumblers due to dangerous metal straws.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has sounded the alarm on these Wawa-branded beverage tumblers, citing a serious laceration hazard caused by the metal straws included with them.

According to the CPSC, these dangerous straws have already caused four reported injuries.

The recall affects 24-ounce reusable tumblers sold with metal straws, available in four styles: “The Mermaid,” “Island Surf,” “Sailor Breeze” and “The Galaxy.”

In August, these tumblers were sold exclusively at Wawa stores in several states and Washington, D.C., for about $13 each.

Wawa’s response to this crisis has been less than satisfactory. The Pennsylvania-based company claimed in a statement that the recalled tumblers have not been in its stores since mid-August and that only 5,433 units were sold.

This attempt to downplay the severity of the situation has been described as outrageous as even one injury caused by a faulty product is one too many.

Consumers who purchased these dangerous tumblers are advised to immediately stop using the metal straws and contact Halo Branding Solutions for a silicone replacement. Additionally, customers can return the tumblers for a $15 gift card refund.

It is worth noting that this recall comes on the heels of other recent product safety issues, including a recall of baby powder due to asbestos contamination.

“The original tumbler and metal straw must be returned to Halo to receive the refund. Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required to receive a replacement or refund. Halo will provide a pre-paid label for shipping the recalled units,” sadi the CPSC.
