Olympics Without Air Conditioning Due to Climate Concerns

(VitalNews.org) – Olympians who will be at the Olympic Village in Paris will be without air conditioning due to concerns regarding the climate and a push to make a more climate-friendly Olympics.

Yann Krysinski, who is in charge of the venues and infrastructure during this summer Olympic season, said that the air conditioning isn’t necessary due to the layout of the buildings and that the athletes will still be comfortable.

Krysinski ensured their comfort, saying, “We designed these buildings so that they would be comfortable places to live in in the summer, in 2024 and later on, and we don’t need air conditioning in these buildings because we oriented the facades so that they wouldn’t get too much sun during the summer, and the facades, the insulation is efficient.”

They said there would be a cooling system that would come from water to cool the apartments. This decision comes after the goal to cut carbon emissions from the Olympics in half which would make for the most sustainable Olympics to date. They stated that despite rising temperatures and a hot summer, they should have no problems cooling the place down.

After the Olympics are over, they plan to have six thousand people move into the neighborhood which would feature schools, an anti-noise wall, and a new bridge.

In response to this, the Australian Olympic committee said it will spend hundreds of thousands on air conditioning and the Greece Olympic group will bring their own air conditioning systems. This is to protect the athletes from the summer elements since last year five thousand people in France died from the heat.
