News Outlet Punished For Not Being “Worshipful of Biden”

(VitalNews.org) – Matt Taibbi, a journalist with the New York Times, has spoken out about the controversy surrounding the news outlet’s reporting on Biden. Taibbi said that the White House shouldn’t expect solely positive stories on their website regarding the administration.

Said Taibbi, “The administration has continued to believe, somehow, that The New York Times is not sufficiently worshipful of Joe Biden.” He continued, “I don’t know what planet they’re living on.”

He continued to say that if you go back and read the reports, there is barely anything negative in them. He stated that there was a security guard at The Times who complimented Biden and then was brought on to do an appearance with the president. This is the type of treatment that Taibbi says they expect in order to be on their good side as a news outlet.

Taibbi called that “really petty stuff” and said, “Reporters don’t expect special treatment. At least they didn’t when I covered the White House. I don’t understand what they’re doing.”

New York Times executive editor Joe Kahn said that their job is to cover a full range of topics and issues, not just to serve one side. The news outlet and the White House have clashed in recent months on multiple different topics, including the president’s lack of media access, in the Times’ view, and also that Biden’s team believes the Times is focusing on the wrong issues.

Joe Khan continued, saying, “We become an instrument of the Biden campaign? We turn ourselves into Xinhua News Agency or Pravda and put out a stream of stuff that’s very, very favorable to them and only write negative stories about the other side? And that would accomplish– what?”
