The small rural community has rallied together, with hundreds of volunteers joining professional teams in the extensive search.
Federal authorities have now been called in as precious time continues to tick away for the missing toddler.
Dane Paulsen was reported missing after he disappeared while playing in his front yard.
The toddler was briefly out of his parents’ sight when he vanished in Siletz, a small town of fewer than 1,300 residents located 80 miles west of Salem.
He was last seen wearing a gray hoodie with ears, black pants, and blue-and-white shoes.
The search effort raised the alarm, prompting community members to travel from as far as Castle Rock, Washington, and Boise, Idaho, to assist.
Over 300 people have participated in the search operation, including 88 search-and-rescue members, 40 investigators, and 140 volunteers.
Despite the extensive manpower and resources deployed, Dane remains missing after authorities have searched 682 acres and covered 311 miles.
Search teams are utilizing advanced technology including 4 drones, human trailing dogs, and marine teams with 13 divers scouring the Siletz River.
The Lincoln County Major Crime Team and the FBI have also joined the investigation, bringing federal resources to this small Oregon town.
Authorities have stated there is currently no evidence suggesting criminal activity in Dane’s disappearance, though they continue to investigate every possible scenario.
An adult male and a 1990s gold station wagon initially reported in the area are no longer considered points of interest.
Despite the concerning circumstances, police have determined that Dane’s case does not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert.
The sheriff’s office described Dane as “friendly and fearless,” comfortable around strangers and water, though he cannot swim.
This concerning combination of traits has intensified search efforts near waterways, particularly the Siletz River.
Air and water units are expected to join ground teams in the relentless effort to bring the boy home safely.
“This is every family’s tragedy, This is horrible. Yeah. So I came out here because, we’ve it’s a mom calls for help. I want to come. So. Yeah. So that’s why I’m here,” said Volunteer Tammy Hads.
Community members wishing to assist can check in at Elks Toketee Illahee campground or call authorities with information.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department expressed gratitude for the community’s compassion and assistance, stating, “Our team and the community are working tirelessly to bring Dane home.”
Updates are being shared via social media and FlashAlert as the search continues.
