(VitalNews.org) – The United States Southern Border has been the area experiencing the most migrant encounters over the last few months. In December alone, there were over 300,000 migrant encounters at the Southern Border of the United States.

This amount of migrant encounters seemed impossible years ago when numbers were steady and only a fraction of the current amount. This is the highest amount total recorded in a given month – ever.

There have been 785,000 encounters in total since October 1st, which again is the highest amount in any quarter ever.

The controversy surrounding this issue continues as many blame it on policyholders while others claim they just need more resources and funding to get it under control.

Mayor Michael Gonneli of Secaucus, New Jersey stated that there were busloads of migrants heading to New York City that have stopped at his train stations, attempting to get around immigration laws.

Gnnolli said in a statement, “It seems quite clear the bus operators are finding a way to thwart the requirements of the executive order by dropping migrants at the train station in Secaucus and having them continue to their final destination.”

The Mayor of New Jersey, among others, has stated seeing busloads of Migrants passing through or coming into their city. This increase in migrants traveling has caused problems for border control, as well as those in the cities that they are passing through.

A joint statement was made by Anthony Blinken, Secretary of State, and Alejandro Mayorkas, Homeland Security Secretary, as well as President Andres Manuel Lopez where they stated that their goal was to continue with “humane, orderly, and regular migration,” and to “disrupt human smuggling.”

They also discussed programs to help protect those migrants that may already be in the United States such as migrants from Obama’s DACA program, which helped immigrant children who were already living in the United States.
