Licensed Gun Owner Stops Restaurant Altercation

(VitalNews.org) – One man’s alleged violent rampage in a Texas restaurant was brought to an abrupt stop when one of his victims shot him. The Leon County’s Sheriff’s Office told reporters that Kevin Craig Anderson arrived at Woody’s Smokehouse in Centreville, Texas, and quickly began harassing customers on August 14 shortly before noon.

He is said to have behaved in an aggressive manner to unsuspecting patrons before heading to the restroom and physically assaulting an elderly man he found there. Police say that not only did Anderson assault the man, but that after knocking him unconscious, he continued to attack him as he lay on the restroom’s tiled floor.

Another male patron is reported to have followed Anderson to the restroom and witnessed the assault. According to police reports, he attempted to intervene and stop the assault on the unconscious man. Anderson allegedly turned his attention to the incomer, attacking him and knocking him to the floor. Anderson is reported to have continued to beat his Good Samaritan victim even after knocking him down, with the assault only ending when the man was able to draw his weapon and fire two shots.

The unnamed man, who had a legal carry permit for his firearm, fired two rounds. One bullet hit Anderson in the right arm and stopped the attack with immediate effect. Anderson is reported to have fled the scene in his vehicle, only to be stopped by law enforcement officers on the Interstate 45. He was transported to St. Joseph Health Hospital in Bryan by helicopter to be treated for his injuries, although he was soon after taken to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston for treatment. Authorities stated that one of his victims has also been hospitalized for injuries sustained during the unprovoked attack.

The investigation is ongoing and is being carried out jointly by Texas Rangers and by the Leon County’s Sheriff’s Office. Diana Wood, the owner of Woody’s Smokehouse, released a short statement via social media in which she thanked the swift response of law enforcement and asked for prayers for her team and the customers involved in the incident.
