(VitalNews.org) – Exposing the grim reality of drug cartel violence and illegal immigration, authorities made a shocking discovery near the U.S.-Mexico border.

Fifty-six bodies were found in an unmarked mass grave in Chihuahua state, an area notorious for drug-related crime and weapons trafficking.

The operation to exhume the bodies was a military-aided effort that lasted several days.

Forensic experts are now tasked with the challenging job of identifying the victims and determining the cause of death.

The remains, which included complete skeletons, partial remains, clothing, and bullet casings, have been sent to a forensics lab for analysis.

This tragic discovery is just the tip of the iceberg. Last month, at least 12 bodies were found in several graves near Ciudad Juarez, close to the U.S. border.

Even more disturbing, 24 dismembered bodies were recently discovered in another mass grave in Mexico.

These ongoing atrocities paint a picture of a country plagued by violence and lawlessness.

The area where the bodies were found, known as “El Willy,” is controlled by La Linea, an armed branch of the Ciudad Juarez cartel.

This region is a known drug and migrant trafficking route to the United States, highlighting the direct connection between these criminal activities and the violence spilling over into American communities.

The scale of this problem is staggering. Over 450,000 people have been murdered in Mexico since a major offensive against drug cartels began in 2006.

Additionally, more than 345,000 people are reported missing in Mexico, according to the national registry.

These numbers underscore the failure of Mexican authorities to maintain law and order and protect their citizens.

As the United States grapples with its own immigration challenges, this discovery serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking just across the border.

Ciudad Juarez, a major border city, is preparing for an influx of deportees as part of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

Some analysts estimate that five million illegal Mexicans currently live in the U.S. and their potential return could overwhelm border cities like Juarez.
