Garland Says DOJ Critics Are Attacking Democracy

( – Attorney General Merrick Garland has come under a lot of pressure from House Republicans who say that he is effectively presiding over a two-tier justice system. Garland’s critics contrast the 37 felony charges that have been made against former President Donald Trump for allegedly mishandling classified documents, with the “kid gloves” approach taken with Hunter Biden, who has been accused by IRS whistle-blowers of accepting huge bribes from Chinese and Ukrainian officials.

Garland has been accused by the whistle-blowers of impeding the investigation into Hunter Biden by ignoring or suppressing evidence, and Republicans suspect that the White House is doing everything it can to minimize the fall-out, including leaning on the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

However, Attorney General Garland has hit back at his accusers, saying that the accusations of a two-tier justice system are ridiculous and unfounded. He said that to even question the integrity of the DOJ and the justice system, which are fundamental to the safety and security of the American people, was “an attack on democracy”.

He highlighted the sacrifices made every day by the personnel on the front lines of the justice system, saying that agents of the FBI, as well as the DEA, the ATF, and US Marshals, risked their lives every time they went out of the front door, chasing down dangerous and armed criminals, and that they due process in conducting all their operations, ensuring they carried out their duties with due regard to the facts and the law.

Garland’s response was in answer to a specific question by a reporter at a press conference, who was asking about attempts by Republicans on the House Oversight Committee to hold Christopher Wray, the FBI Director, in contempt for his refusal to hand over an FBI informant document relating to the $10 million dollar bribe alleged to have been given to Hunter Biden and his father, President Joe Biden.
