(VitalNews.org) – Staying true to his word, President Donald Trump fulfilled a campaign promise by securing the release of Marc Fogel, an American teacher held captive in Russia for over three years.
Watch the video down below.
The president made his promise when he met Marc’s mother, Malphine Fogel, at a campaign rally last year.
“(Trump) promised me he would get him out, and he kept his promise,” Malphine Fogel explained. “I can’t thank him enough.”
Marc Fogel, a 61-year-old teacher from Pennsylvania, found himself trapped in Russia’s harsh legal system after being arrested in August 2021 for carrying medically prescribed marijuana.
Despite the legitimate nature of his medication, Russian authorities sentenced Fogel to a grueling 14-year prison term in June 2022, showcasing the severe consequences Americans can face under foreign regimes.
While the Biden administration seemed content to let Fogel waste away in a Russian prison, President Trump took immediate action.
Through the efforts of special envoy Steve Witkoff, President Trump’s team negotiated a deal for Fogel’s release.
After returning to American soil, Fogel expressed his gratitude. In a heartfelt statement at the White House, he said, “I want you to know that I am not a hero in this at all. And President Trump is a hero.”
“I feel like the luckiest man on Earth right now,” he added. “I’m a middle-class school teacher who’s now in a dream world.”
Fogel’s lawyers also expressed, “President Trump secured Marc’s release in just a few weeks, wasting no time in taking decisive action to bring Marc home.”
President Trump’s successful negotiation not only brought Fogel home but also potentially paved the way for future diplomatic breakthroughs.
National Security Adviser Mike Waltz suggested that this deal could be a positive step towards ending the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
This development underscores President Trump’s commitment to achieving peace through strength and negotiation.
“We were treated very nicely by Russia,” the president stated. “Actually, I hope that’s the beginning of a relationship where we can end that war and millions of people can stop being killed.”
As America welcomes Marc Fogel back home, the nation is reminded of the importance of strong leadership in protecting citizens and interests abroad.
