FBI Allegedly Targeting Trump Supporters Ahead of 2024

(VitalNews.org) – Is the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) currently tracking supporters of former President Donald Trump? According to a Newsweek reporter, that’s exactly what’s happening, and the bureau reasons that the upcoming 2024 presidential election justifies surveillance because of threats of violence and civil unrest.

Citing an anonymous source, Newsweek reporter William M. Arkin claims that the FBI is attempting to stop “domestic terrorism” without specifically targeting, but that data acquired by Newsweek shows that most of these investigations are targeting Trump supporters.

An anonymous FBI official claims that the Justice Department bureau is “in an almost possible position.” The official claims that the focus on mitigating domestic terror threats since the Capitol riot in Washington D.C. on January 6, 2021, but that the FBI also has to walk a fine line between stopping such individuals while respecting the constitutional right of every American to use their free speech to protest the government under the First Amendment.

The official also argued that targeting Trump supporters only runs the risk of angering them and possibly radicalizing them, creating the very problem that the FBI claims to be trying to resist. Of course, it wouldn’t be the first time the FBI has puffed up their numbers by involving themselves, something happened before in their supposed efforts to stop Islamic terrorism.

Last month, President Joe Biden posted a tweet calling Trump and “Maga Republicans” a “threat to the very soul” of the US. He accused Trump and his supporters of aiming “to question… the legitimacy of past elections,” those being “held now and into the future.” The anonymous official said the FBI has “to tread very carefully” because of the Congress Republicans pushing back and claiming the Bureau is being weaponized against right-wing Americans.

The Newsweek story immediately received backlash from left-wing media pundits, including an op-ed in The Washington Post raising questions about the story. Naturally, people are also skeptical of anonymous sources who don’t make the full jump into full-blown whistleblowers.
