(VitalNews.org) – Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX and Tesla, and the current owner of social media site Twitter, is gearing up for his $1 billion cage fight in Las Vegas with Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook.
The fight, which was originally thought to be a schoolboy-type dare from Musk after Zuckerberg said that he was going to start a social media site to rival Twitter, has ballooned into the fully-fledged prospect of two social media giants battling it out in the ring.
Both Musk and Zuckerberg have some experience in martial arts – Musk has trained in karate, taekwondo, and judo, while Zuckerberg has Brazilian jiu-jitsu skills. Musk is taller and heavier than Zuckerberg, but he is also significantly older at 51 years old compared to Zuckerberg at 39.
Both men have been training with black belt martial arts experts in preparation for what is being billed as “the fight of the century.”
Musk has released a video of himself in training with Lex Freidman, a podcaster who is also a black belt in jiu-jitsu. Freidman has so far declined to take sides, though, and has also assisted Zuckerberg with martial arts training in the past.
Freidman has said that the world would be a better place with two technological titans such as Musk and Zuckerberg fully trained in martial arts. Both men have appeared on Freidman’s podcasts to discuss issues such as science, philosophy, and artificial intelligence.
The finer details of a potential fight in Las Vegas are now being hashed out with Dana White, the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), who has claimed that the fight could rake in over a billion dollars, a claim that has been echoed by former UFC champion Chael Sonnen, who estimated that viewing figures alone could approach 25 million, each paying an estimated $50 dollars per view.
He said that he would expect both Twitter and Facebook to set up digital channels to handle the millions of expected pay-per-view customers.
