Elon Musk Goes on Walk With Life-Sized Robot

(VitalNews.org) – Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, recently shared a video showing the capabilities of a new life-sized robot named Optimus, that he’s been working on.

The video was posted by Elon Musk on Wednesday with a caption that said “Going on a walk with Optimus.” The video shows a human-sized robot walking slowly in human-like motions. This is not the first time we’ve seen Optimus. Before this post, Elon Musk posted on X showing this robot folding a shirt.

He has said before that the goal of building and designing this robot is to get it to a point where it is “capable of performing tasks that are unsafe, repetitive, or boring.” There has been a lot of controversy surrounding these robots and people have differing opinions around them.

Some people are excited to see what robots can do and how they can be a part of society, while others feel the complete opposite. Elon Musk got quite a few responses to his tweet, many of them expressing fear and worry about this new robot.

“HAS NO ONE SEEN THE MOVIE IROBOT?!” said one response on Musk’s video. Others said to “kill it with fire” and many said that these robots were not needed and they more than likely will just cause problems in the future.

Some people took this opportunity to make jokes about the robot and how it was walking. Some compared it to President Biden by saying “Optimus already walks faster than the leader of the free world” and “Already outpaces Biden.”

The Optimus robot was first introduced by Elon Musk at Tesla’s Artificial Intelligence Day in August of 2021. At this time Musk referred to the robot as “The Tesla Bot.” After that, the company released its latest robot which was named Optimus Gen 2.”

Optimus Gen 2 is a life-sized robot that stands at 5 feet 11 inches while weighing 122 pounds, additionally, it can run at a speed of about 5 mph. Musk spoke about this Gen 2 robot at an event in October 2022; he is hoping to sell these robots to the public at a price of about $20,000 a unit and hopes to produce millions of them. At that time, Musk said that there was a lot of work to be done but that he thinks “Optimus is going to be incredible in 5 or 10 years.”

There has been a lot of talk about robots and what their capabilities on Earth, and elsewhere, will be in the coming years. David Holz, the founder of Midjourney, an artificial intelligence research lab, has high hopes for these robots. He said, “We should be expecting a billion humanoid robots on earth in the 2040s and a hundred billion (mostly alien) robots throughout the solar system in the 2060s.” Elon Musk responded to this by saying “Probably something like that, provided the foundations of civilization are stable.”
