(VitalNews.org) – Under the guise of maintaining election security, the Biden-Harris Department of Justice (DOJ) is sending district election officers across the country.
This move is part of Attorney General Merrick Garland’s Election Threats Task Force, established in 2021, and raises concerns about potential federal overreach into state-run elections.
The DOJ claims these officers will address voting rights complaints and instances of election-related violence or fraud.
While the DOJ brags about charging over a dozen individuals with threatening election workers, the task force has reviewed over 2,000 reports of threats.
This low prosecution rate suggests either an exaggeration of the threat or an inability to address it effectively.
The DOJ’s emphasis on not “criminalizing free speech” while addressing “serious threats” leaves room for interpretation.
This ambiguity could potentially be used to silence conservative voices questioning election procedures.
Furthermore, the task force’s collaboration with election officials and law enforcement at federal and local levels raises questions about the potential for coordinated efforts to suppress dissent and maintain the status quo.
Additionally, Garland announced that the FBI will be deployed in early November to assess and react to any potential election-related crimes as part of the DOJ’s Election Day efforts.
Garland stated, “Election officials and administrators do not need to navigate this threat environment alone. We are here to support them and make sure they can safely carry out their critical work.”
