(VitalNews.org) – A deepfake is stirring controversy as Martin Luther King Jr.’s daughter is outraged at a viral video of her father endorsing GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.
The AI-generated content, which has garnered millions of views, uses the civil rights leader’s image to criticize Democrats and support Trump.
Watch the video below.
Initially shared by a pro-Trump account associated with the “Dilley Meme Team,” the video quickly gained traction on social media platforms.
It uses synthetic voice and likeness technology to create a video of what Dr. King might say today, aligning with Republican messaging targeting Black voters.
Bernice King condemned the video in an X post: “Delete this, @MAGAResource. It’s vile, fake, irresponsible, and not at all reflective of what my father would say. And you gave no thought to our family.”
Despite Bernice King’s demands, the video remains online with a Community Note pointing out that it is misleading.
In the meantime, the original poster and associated accounts have celebrated the video’s viral reach.
Supporters of the video argue that it sheds light on the fact that the Democrat Party has taken Black voters for granted.
They point to Trump’s efforts to appeal to Black Americans, such as his 2018 bipartisan deal to reduce prison sentences and the creation of low-tax “opportunity zones,” as evidence of his commitment to the community.
Trump has consistently said he has done more for Black Americans than any president except Abraham Lincoln.
In turn, critics of the video argue that it misrepresents Dr. King’s beliefs and undermines the democratic process by potentially influencing voters through deception.
However, supporters assert that the video is merely a form of political satire protected by free speech rights.
