(VitalNews.org) – According to two independent reports looking at the stakes of the upcoming election, the environmental policies of Joe Biden’s administration will save about two hundred thousand lives from dangerous pollution in the coming years.
The first full year after the Inflation reduction Act was passed, there were almost one hundred and fifty thousand clean energy jobs. Clean energy jobs also grew twice as fast as overall U.S. employment growth and they account for one in sixteen new jobs nationally.
The former president Donald Trump blamed Kamala Harris for waging a “war on American energy,” and he called for an end to incentives for Americans to drive electric cars as the Republican presidential candidate.
Bob O’Keefe, executive director of E2, said that the IRA in place has helped lead “an American economic revolution the likes of which we haven’t seen in generations.”
”The biggest threats to this unprecedented progress are misguided efforts to repeal or roll back parts of the IRA, despite the law’s clear benefits both to American workers and the communities where they live,” he continued.
Trump has long disapproved of the Environmental Protection Agency and similar agencies that focus on clean energy and environmental impacts.
A former climate policy adviser for the EPA, Jeremy Symons, said, “The EPA’s accomplishments have been nothing short of lifesaving over the last four years. These are real people who wouldn’t be alive if not for the non-partisan work of the EPA to start doing its job again after the last administration.”
It’s unclear exactly what Donald Trump’s plans for the EPA would be if he won the office again, but he did attempt to cut the agency’s budget when he was in power previously.
