Biden Policy Expands Medicare to Ten New Medicines

(VitalNews.org) – A new negotiation was announced by the Biden Administration that will make ten popular medications available for lower prices through Medicare.

This new policy is the first in the United States and is a part of the Inflation Reduction Act. The medicines that are now covered are Fiasp, Januvia, Enbrel, Farxiga, Steelers, Jardiance, Stelara, Xarelto, Eliquis, Ernesto, and Imbruvica.

“For years, millions of Americans were forced to choose between paying for medications or putting food on the table, while big pharma blocked Medicare from being able to negotiate prices on behalf of seniors and people with disabilities, but we fought back – and won,” Biden said in a statement.

Healthcare has been a huge issue for voters this election due to the severity of healthcare costs.

Neera Tanden, director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, said, “As someone who’s worked on these issues for a really long time, it is a historic moment that is finally happening.”

The administration claims that this would save Medicare six billion dollars and would save seniors one and a half billion dollars when it starts in 2026.

Both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have pushed their stances on healthcare and bringing down the cost of prescription drugs. Many experts have spoken out in support of these negotiations and new expansions for Medicare.

Many have pointed to Kamala Harris for breaking the tie to pass the IRA allowing them to negotiate prescription drug prices. Both the President and Vice President have actively moved toward their promise to bring down the prices especially for essential prescriptions.
