(VitalNews.org) – After pushing for Bible studies to be included in school curriculums, Oklahoma’s Superintendent Ryan Walters is fending off attacks from fierce leftist opposition.
Himself a champion of religious liberty, Walters is fighting against decades of secularism in public schools, much to the dismay of liberal activists and their mainstream media allies.
As part of his resume, Walters is a former high school history teacher and 2016 teacher of the year finalist.
He was appointed Secretary of Public Education in Oklahoma in 2020 and elected as Superintendent in 2022.
Since taking office, he has been a vocal advocate for conservative values in education, aligning closely with President-elect Donald Trump’s vision for American schools.
In a recent interview with CNN, Walters defended his mandate to include the Bible and the Ten Commandments in the curriculum for grades 5 to 10.
Despite facing a lawsuit and a petition with over 14,000 signatures opposing the decision, Walters remains firm in his commitment to acknowledging the Bible’s significance in American society.
“The left has driven the Bible out of schools, driven prayer out of schools, and everything in education has gotten worse since,” Walters stated.
He also highlighted the decline in educational standards since public schools stopped their religious teachings.
Walters’ efforts extend beyond just including the Bible in curricula. He has proposed creating an Office of Religious Liberty and Patriotism and required schools to show a video of him praying for Trump.
These moves have faced resistance from some school districts and even the state’s attorney general, who deemed the prayer video mandate unenforceable.
In response to criticism, Walters has been unapologetic and argued that the Constitution supports religious liberty and the Bible’s role in American history.
During his CNN interview, he pushed back against what he sees as biased reporting, stating, “I have continued to hear the gaslighting from the left, frankly, even from this network, pushing lies about what’s going on across America.”
Walters’ actions have secured a place on the national stage. His strong stance on conservative education reform has put him in the spotlight as a potential pick for education secretary or adviser in the upcoming Trump administration.
This recognition comes as no surprise to those who have followed Walters’ career and his commitment to dismantling the liberal stronghold on public education.
