(VitalNews.org) – Some anti-Israel voters have been avoiding support for Kamala Harris; they say they will stay home and not support her if there isn’t a ceasefire.
Hannah Zellman, a social worker from Philadelphia, said “This is our leverage.” Leah Sheppard, her friend and a child care provider said, “This is all we have.”
Swing state voters are a huge part of a movement to put pressure on her campaign and push Biden to withdraw U.S. weapons that are being sent to Israel. After Harris became the official Democratic nominee, many pledged saying that Kamala Harris must push for a ceasefire or they wouldn’t vote for her.
Many don’t seem phased by the fact that this would push Donald Trump to win the election if they don’t vote in Harris’ direction.
“What’s really helping Trump is that this administration is not listening to the voters who support a cease-fire,” said Zellman. Sheppard said, “I do want to vote, but ethically, I’m stuck.”
Kamala Harris was doing a speech campaign in Michigan when she called out anti-Israel people in the crowd who kept interrupting her, saying, “You know what, if you want Donald Trump to win, then say that. Otherwise, I’m speaking.”
Harris spoke to the National Uncommitted Movement as they stressed the demand for the United States to place an arms embargo on Israel. This meeting has sparked controversy and fears among Israel supporters who are worried she will entertain the idea of an embargo.
Harris’ National Security Advisor, Phil Gordon, said, “Harris has been clear: she will always ensure Israel is able to defend itself against Iran and Iran-backed terrorist groups.” Her campaign said that she is “focused on securing the cease-fire and hostage deal currently on the table. As she has said, it is time for this war to end in a way where: Israel is secure, hostages are released, the suffering of Palestinian civilians ends, and the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, freedom, and self-determination.”
