(VitalNews.org) – Ken Paxton, the Texas Attorney General, recently warned President Joe Biden that it was impossible to overstate the threat to border security, national sovereignty, and the safety of the American people caused by the ending of Title 42.
Title 42 was a public health policy, introduced during the Trump presidency in 2019, that stopped illegal migrants from automatically being able to claim asylum and allowed for their immediate deportation.
The abolition of Title 42 by the Biden administration was widely expected to result in a huge increase of illegal migrants crossing the border from Mexico, but it has also resulted in an increased number of terrorist suspects crossing the border.
In just one day (the day following the abolition of Title 42 earlier this month), five illegal migrants who pinged up on the FBI Terrorist Screening Database (TSDB) were arrested by Border Patrol personnel.
Although Customs and Border Protection agents are not authorized to speak to representatives of the media, it is understood that the illegal migrants were handed over to the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) for identity confirmation and further interrogation. Further information concerning the nationalities of the suspected terrorists was not immediately available.
The TSDB contains the names of people who have been reasonably suspected of planning or partaking in terrorist activities. The database is maintained by the Terrorist Screening Centre (TSC) and information is provided to several different law enforcement agencies including the Department of Homeland Security.
According to a recent Customs and Border Protection report, as many as 80 illegal migrants who are listed in the TSDB have been arrested after entering the US along the southwestern border with Mexico this year. Two more illegal migrants were apprehended after entering the US via the northern border with Canada.
The Texas Attorney General said that despite the chaos on the southern border caused by the Biden administration, Texas would continue to do everything within its power to stop illegal immigration.
